Dr. Wu was very instrumental in allowing the early exchange of Kunming and Tennessee botanists.

His vast knowledge of the ecological physiography of China gave Dr. Wu a leading reputation among the world’s botanists. His early education at the Missouri Botanical Garden gave him the background and language skills to see the advantage of opening China’s botanical riches to the world. His mark on Chinese botany will be remembered for a long time, and his personal friendly style has been welcomed over the years.
